What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that every human being experiences daily. Daydreaming, becoming absorbed in a book or a movie, or driving home on autopilot are all examples of a hypnotic state, also known in neuroscience as the theta brain wave state.
In other words, hypnosis is nothing like the zombie-like condition often portrayed in movies or TV shows.

How does it feel to be in a hypnotic state?

There is no single way hypnosis feels. It varies from person to person and even within in a session, as well from session to session. One way to describe it is as a state where you are in contact with your subconscious while still aware of your surroundings. In fact, your awareness often becomes sharper.

A more poetic way to explain it is that it feels almost like dreaming while awake.

Will I loose control or fall asleep?

Accepted Answer

No, not at all. No one can be made to do anything against their will, and hypnosis is not sleep. You remain aware of what is happening around you but choose not to focus on it. You are in a state of deep physical and mental relaxation, with increased awareness and inner focus.

If something were to occur that felt alarming or went against your personal values, you would simply reject it and return to full alertness.

Through hypnotherapy, you actually gain more control over your life by releasing and transforming the patterns that limit you. You become more aligned with your true wishes and dreams.

Can I be hypnotised?

Accepted Answer

Yes, everyone can be hypnotised, but you must want to be. For many, it is easy and happens quickly. For others, a little practice or guidance helps.

There are different levels of hypnosis, from a light trance to a deep trance. Each person is unique, so each session is different.

What is the difference between hypnsis and hypnotherapy?

This is a simple explanation, as there are many approaches within hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

In hypnosis, the client is guided into a hypnotic state, and the hypnotist offers positive suggestions for change.

In hypnotherapy, the client is guided into a hypnotic state, and then the therapy begins. The client is actively involved, communicating with the hypnotherapist to identify and release limitations or blockages.

(Again, there are also many different directions in hypnotherapy, so this is just a simple general explanation)

Will hypnotherapy work for me?

Hypnotherapy is a powerful and effective tool, and again and again clients experience profound change. For it to work, two things are essential:
• You genuinely want to make a change and are ready to face what is needed.
 • You come with an open mind and heart. This does not mean believing in something before you have experienced it. It means giving it an honest try.

I want to change but don't know if I am ready?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes the difference between “not ready” and simply feeling nervous or unsure is a fine line. Often, the very thoughts or obstacles you are worried about can be addressed within the session itself.

How many sessions do I need?

With Dynamic Emotional Therapy, I usually recommend two to four sessions per issue for real and lasting change.

This can vary depending on your personal history and where you are in life right now.

Is hypnotherapy safe and/or can I get "stuck"?"

Accepted Answer

Yes, hypnotherapy is very safe, and no, you cannot get “stuck” in hypnosis.

The only people for whom it is not recommended are those with certain mental disabilities, serious mental health conditions, or those under the strong influence of drugs.

The list is long because hypnotherapy can be used for almost anything that affects your feelings, thoughts, or behaviours.

It ranges from addressing deep emotional pain, addiction, and unresolved hurt, to exploring curiosity about your inner world, expanding love and awareness, or deepening your sense of soul connection.

Your safety and comfort are essential. I work with you as a partner in the process. Nothing is done that is not in line with your values and beliefs.

I aspire to be the best therapist I can be for you. All sessions are confidential.  I only keep notes on what we have agreed upon, and I follow the Code of Ethics of the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH).
